ZWSOFT, a leading supplier of 2D and 3D CAD/CAM solutions to the AEC and MCAD industry, today officially announced the release of Service Pack 2 for ZW3D 2012. The major improvement in this pack is the more efficient and intelligent mold design module. It provides features including project management, multi-product design, multi-cavity design as well as faster patching, which helps designers manage mold projects and improve design efficiency.

In the cost-effective CAD/CAM package of ZW3D 2012, the whole-process mold design solution has been a well-received feature. This time service pack 2 takes the mold design experience further by providing the following improvements:

More easily manage mold projects with assembly mode & extended assembly reference

For a mold design that consists of a lot of parts, it may not be easy work for designer to check every detail in the drawing. If there’s a mode that enables designers to view every part in a classified order, it would be a huge time saver. In ZW3D 2012 SP2, the new project management function solves this problem perfectly. In the project file with Assembly Mode, when you click the command Mold Project Tools & Prating Design Tools on any part, the system will automatically activate the corresponding file. It is a more intelligent management mode that gives users more convenient operations.

Often there might be modifications needed for certain parts in the mold project when the designer spots a drafting error or has new needs. It would take a lot of time and may lead to inaccuracy of the final design if we just modify this certain part and the relevant assembly parts step by step. The intelligent association between assembly parts of the Extended Assembly Reference in ZW3D 2012 SP2 will accomplish the modification blazingly fast and accurate. It provides three types of references: Non-associative reference, Associative reference without timestamp, and Associative reference with timestamp.

Efficiently make complex multi-product and multi-cavity designs

There are also new features in this service pack making it easy to design several different products or multiple cavities for a product in one mold project. It helps designers reduce a lot of manual work.

For complex molds with inner holes, Parting Shape (the automatic method) and Inner Edge (the manual method) just takes a few seconds to finish the patching, which also improves design efficiency.

ZWSOFT, a leading supplier of 2D and 3D CAD/CAM solutions to the AEC and MCAD industries, today made available ZW3D 2012 Service Pack 1 to customers, who will enjoy 30 new functions and over 180 improvements to existing 3D CAD/CAM features.

New Features and Improvements

Service Pack 1 advances ZW3D 2012 in the areas of visualization, data exchange, design, CAM, and post-processing. Highlights include the addition of many more post-processors for CAM operations, curve construction based on equations, and better support for AMD/ATI graphics boards.

  • Improved visualization and collaboration allows two copies of ZW3D to run at the same time. The new type of PDF is added and ZW3D file can be saved as PDF format. For better visualization, lines under one pixel are now thickened automatically, dimension elements have more options for colors customization, and support for graphics boards from AMD is improved.

  • More efficient design is made possible through new equation-based curves that can be generated from more than 70 supplied equations. Curves can be easily defined by three different coordinate methods, and a friendly interface makes it easy to modify parameters and equations of the curves. Patterns now support punches, and can be accurately applied to closed curves and surfaces. Additionally, there are many more improvements to direct edit, filleting, plane alignment, and in the areas of 2D drafting and sketching.

  • Enhanced support for manufacturing includes easier geometry alignments, improved parting lines from silhouettes, and more split face options. For turning operations, calculations are speedier, collision avoidance is substantially improved, dual spindles are supported, and much, much more. Additions to 2X milling include external helical cuts, new tap operations, and rough depths overrides. In 3X milling, ZW3D now supports non-ball reference tool improved undercut operations, and better tool-path corner rounding.

  • Added post-processors for 2-3X machining (HNC-21_22M) and many more 5X post-processors, including GSK25i, SINUMERIK840D, and heidenhain530.

ZWSOFT, a leading supplier of 2D and 3D CAD/CAM solutions to the AEC and MCAD industries, today unveiled the beta program for its forthcoming ZW3D 2012, the flexible CAD/CAM software for all types of 3D modeling and machining. This new release promises significant improvements in many areas, with a special focus on increased modeling efficiency and advanced CAM operations as well as the new ribbon interface. More enhanced functions will come with the official release of ZW3D 2012 by the end of February this year.

Better User Experience

The user interface of ZW3D 2012 features the ribbon interface, along with a new in-context mini-bar and in-context help files. The integrated PARTSolutions library allows users to quickly access the entire feature history of each part. The Lightworks add-on renderer generates professional-looking images.

Increased Modeling Efficiency, Better Direct Editing

ZW3D 2012 offers users numerous improvements in creating and editing 3D models. The replace face, extrude, rib, curve mesh, and extend face operations are all improved. Direct Edit 2.0 makes it more intuitive for users to modify parts through direct editing functions.

Faster Sketching, Assemblies, and Drawings

Sketching is now 50% faster due to the optimizedwork flow. With the more interactive interface, it takes fewer steps for users to arrive at the result they want. In assemblies, it's easier to move them with the new Assembly Move command.

In 2D drawing mode, layout views are now associative, and users can apply solid-filled TTF fonts for text.

Advanced CAM Operations

The new 2X Turning Module gives users turning and milling in the same interface, with support for OD and ID roughing, finishing, threading, and grooving operations -- along with an improved hole-making process.

Quick Mill gets a new undercut feature for creating 3x tool paths with wheel and T-slot milling tools for removing material beneath, thereby creating overhanging shapes. Together with the new CAM user interface, customers will appreciate the improved work flow.

Expanded Translation Capabilities

ZW3D 2012 now exports models in nativeSTEP andACIS SAT format, and the PDF exporter is beefed up with the new 3D mode. Images can be saved in a variety of high resolution raster files, and the STEP importer is now three times faster than before.
