SPE & RAPRA Sponsor Video Contest For Post-Secondary Plastics Students

Registration is now open for the RAPid Impact “Pitch Your Science” student video competition, co-sponsored by the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) and the Rubber and Plastics Research Association, Ltd. (RAPRA).

The contest is designed to help students in post-secondary plastics programs develop the skills ultimately needed to accelerate the commercialization of their products by effectively communicating novel technical concepts to a scientifically untrained audience. Entrants may range from undergraduates to post-doctoral scholars at accredited schools in the United States. They will be mentored by plastics professionals.

The deadline for registration is May 31, 2012. By that date, an entrant must submit a video of no more than three minutes. Registrants will be advised by email of a series of four free “Pitch Your Science” webinars to be presented in February and March, designed to help them enhance their videos. Submissions will be judged on content, creativity, originality, execution, and effect. Winners will be announced on or about August 1, 2012.

First-, second-, and third-place winners will receive cash prizes of $5.000, $1,000, and $500, respectively. In addition, the first-place winner will attend the Global Polymer Innovation Expo as a guest of RAPRA, including free registration and up to $1,000 travel expenses. The event will take place August 26-29 in Columbus, OH.
