SpaceClaim Signs an OEM Agreement with Geomagic

SpaceClaim today announced an OEM agreement with Geomagic® to deliver the first-ever product for designing 3D parts directly from 3D scan data. The resultant product, Geomagic Spark™, is being announced at the EuroMold 2012 Exhibition.

Geomagic Spark enters the market as the only 3D tool that combines scan capture tools, robust 3D point and mesh editing capabilities, comprehensive CAD design and assembly modeling, and 2D drawing creation in one complete application. It was created through the use of the SpaceClaim API (Application Program Interface) which allowed Geomagic’s advanced point and mesh processing tools to be integrated into SpaceClaim’s 3D direct modeling environment. Designers can simply scan directly into Geomagic Spark or load an existing point cloud or polygon model. From there, they choose from a wide range of automated tools to create or improve a polygon mesh, such as sampling, reducing noise, point to mesh wrapping, and repairing holes. Once the mesh is prepared, users simply transfer the mesh to the design window with a single mouse click.

“The business acumen of SpaceClaim has enabled a ground-breaking new product to become real,” said Tom Kurke, President and COO, Geomagic. “As SpaceClaim’s partner, we enjoy a great working relationship with them, and appreciate their responsiveness to our technical and business needs. SpaceClaim’s strong development code and superb technical support only adds positively to the entire experience of developing a significant new product such as Geomagic Spark.”

The partnership agreement was completed just nine months ago, after the original ‘Go to SpaceClaim’ function in Geomagic Studio 2012 was released last year. After this successful initial development process, customer demand for a more integrated version of both 3D scan and direct modeling functionality encouraged the two teams to look at a closer relationship. The companies have agreed to a multi-year agreement where SpaceClaim is embedded into the new Geomagic Spark product.

“Geomagic Spark, the seamless fusion of Geomagic and SpaceClaim technology, is a product that ushers in a completely new way to scan and design parts in 3D,” said Chris Randles, President and CEO, SpaceClaim. “The fact that this exciting and revolutionary new product was completed in such a short time is testament to how well both companies collaborated to bring together their respective technologies, share ideas, and create exciting new capabilities. We look forward to continuing to work with Geomagic, as Spark wins new customers and introduces them to SpaceClaim’s unique and innovative 3D direct modeling environment.”

Geomagic Spark will be available at the end of January 2013. Selected users will perform beta trials in due course and after its release in January 2013, free trials of Geomagic Spark will be available.

Geomagic will be presenting Geomagic Spark at Euromold 2012 in Frankfurt, Germany, November 27-30, 2012. SpaceClaim will also be exhibiting at Euromold in Hall 11, Stand E49.
