ZW3D Holiday Design Challenge

Written by

ZWSOFT announced it is holding a holiday design challenge on GrabCAD. Participants use ZW3D CAD/CAM software to design gifts for their loved one this holiday season with a chance to win great prizes, just in time for Christmas!  Visitors are welcome to share or vote for their favorite holiday gift.

ZWSOFT is partnering up with GrabCAD, 3D Connexion and Ponoko to bring designers a fun contest this holiday season that lets them show off their design skills in ZW3D while having a chance to win real prizes that they can put to use. The idea behind this design challenge is to share designs, which comes from the tradition to share gifts with others during Christmas time. ZW3D wants everyone to come up with their ideal Christmas gift, and bring it to life with ZW3D. “We want participants to be creative! Design fun gifts.” Stated Colin Lin, Manager of the ZW3D Technical Department, “Don’t just make a model of Santa Claus – think of something unique and original. A mechanical Reindeer? A Christmas Tree Star made completely of gears? Surprise us!”

The contest takes place from November 1st to 30th and we’ve had a great response from participants. The prizes this year have risen to a new level in the spirit of the holidays and thanks to our sponsors 3D Connexion and Ponoko.

Prizes will be judged on a variety of criteria, including quality (of course) but also creativity, popularity and ease of manufacturing.  “We have seen some great entries so far,” stated Colin Lin, “but I can’t wait to see what else participants will come up with and how they will utilize the features and functionalities of ZW3D.”

Visitor’s like and shares of the entries will also be a reference to judge the prizes. We warmly welcome visitors to come by and find out your favorite Christmas gift.

ZWSOFT Announces Release of ZW3D 2012 SP2

Written by

ZWSOFT, a leading supplier of 2D and 3D CAD/CAM solutions to the AEC and MCAD industry, today officially announced the release of Service Pack 2 for ZW3D 2012. The major improvement in this pack is the more efficient and intelligent mold design module. It provides features including project management, multi-product design, multi-cavity design as well as faster patching, which helps designers manage mold projects and improve design efficiency.

In the cost-effective CAD/CAM package of ZW3D 2012, the whole-process mold design solution has been a well-received feature. This time service pack 2 takes the mold design experience further by providing the following improvements:

More easily manage mold projects with assembly mode & extended assembly reference

For a mold design that consists of a lot of parts, it may not be easy work for designer to check every detail in the drawing. If there’s a mode that enables designers to view every part in a classified order, it would be a huge time saver. In ZW3D 2012 SP2, the new project management function solves this problem perfectly. In the project file with Assembly Mode, when you click the command Mold Project Tools & Prating Design Tools on any part, the system will automatically activate the corresponding file. It is a more intelligent management mode that gives users more convenient operations.

Often there might be modifications needed for certain parts in the mold project when the designer spots a drafting error or has new needs. It would take a lot of time and may lead to inaccuracy of the final design if we just modify this certain part and the relevant assembly parts step by step. The intelligent association between assembly parts of the Extended Assembly Reference in ZW3D 2012 SP2 will accomplish the modification blazingly fast and accurate. It provides three types of references: Non-associative reference, Associative reference without timestamp, and Associative reference with timestamp.

Efficiently make complex multi-product and multi-cavity designs

There are also new features in this service pack making it easy to design several different products or multiple cavities for a product in one mold project. It helps designers reduce a lot of manual work.

For complex molds with inner holes, Parting Shape (the automatic method) and Inner Edge (the manual method) just takes a few seconds to finish the patching, which also improves design efficiency.

New in ZW3D 2011

This latest beta version of ZW3D 2011 offers users the following new features:

SmoothFlowTM Direct Edit design paradigm combines the speed and flexibility of direct modeling with the precise control of dimension-driven design -- without losing the functionality of history-based modeling. SmoothFlow lets you modify features quickly and effectively on native and imported geometry without waiting for history regeneration.

Automatic 3D Feature Machining breaks down part topology into solid features, and then analyzes the capabilities of library tools to produce efficient machining plans. This breakthrough technology shortens programming by an estimated 50%, and reduces machine cycle times by up to 30%.

QuickEdit with SmartPick presents users with context-sensitive editing tools based on the geometry selected. No longer is there a need to preselect editing tools. In addition, ZW3D now edits imported data as if they are native objects.
One-Step Core & Cavity Calculator creates both cores and cavities for mold designs in one operation.

Integrated PartSolutions Library accesses a huge catalog of parts in ANSI, DIN, ISO, JIS, and a dozen other international standards.

Parametric Drawing – Shift the Way You Design

ZWCAD 2011 offers you two types of parametric constraints (geometric and dimensional) that allow associative design and editing of objects, which will radically redefine the way you design in 2D by dramatically improving accuracy and reducing editing time.

More Drawing Tools – Boost Your Efficiency

MLeader, Table, and Field work together perfectly. You can use MLeader to mark part numbers in drawings, and then use Table to list all of them. Finally, you can add Field to display drawing information so they will update automatically to show the latest information about the drawing. The new Solprof feature enables you to create profiles of 3D solids with an ease. Newly integrated into ZWCAD 2011 is PDF Plotter, which plots drawings to high quality PDF files containing layer information from the drawing - just like what you see in the original.

Many More Improvements - Give You a Better User Experience

Snap has gained a new enhancement (Magnet) to increase the efficiency for click and snap designing. Smart Selection Highlighting is now supported to highlight the object at which you are pointing. Dimension Break provides a much needed visual enhancement to your drawing views by removing sections of dimension lines where they intersect object lines. Refedit has been reconstructed to enhance both speed and accuracy of in-place reference editing. The speed of inserting raster images has also been markedly improved.

Enhanced LISP and ZRX – Expand Your Design Ability

Many new classes have been added to the ZRX interface, such as MFCs (Microsoft foundation classes), the load-on-demand functions, double-click protocol functions, and ZRX entrance messages. There make it easier for users to write more powerful applications, and to migrate their old ARX applications to ZWCAD in less time. With regard to LISP, a batch of new visual LISP functions, such as VLR-, VLAX- and VL-functions have been added.
