RAPID Launches New Part Quoting Platform

Written by

RAPID announces a new quoting solution for Rapid Machining and Rapid Sheet Metal customers. Rapid Sheet Metal will provide instant pricing and Rapid Machining will turn-around quotes within 24 hours.

To use the new quoting platform users need to log in or register for a free myRAPID account. Once in the portal, click on the Add Quote button. The customer is then prompted to choose a service, upload the CAD files, and submit the RFQ. If a part is eligible for instant pricing the part cost will appear. If the part does not fit the current instant pricing model or is a machined part a note will appear and a quote will be sent to the customer within 24 hours. Aside from the ease of quoting, the customer benefits by also being able to specify expedites, split shipments, and remove or add items to an order.

Steve Lynch, Director of Technology, states “This tool is very powerful for the customer. It allows them to be in charge of their orders, shipping dates, shipping methods and more. I am very excited for the release of the tool and thrilled with beta customer feedback of significant time savings.”

James Jacobs, CEO, states, “RAPID continually looks to reduce time in all parts of the manufacturing process. Batch Quoting eliminates the time consuming step of pricing each part separately. We pride ourselves on providing a frictionless customer experience and this opens up yet another option to receive pricing from RAPID. We recognize that different people work in different ways and by offering multiple options to submit quotes to RAPID, the customer can choose a method most convenient to them and their business.”

Customers using SOLIDWORKS will still be able to get instant pricing using eRAPID, a free SOLIDWORKS plug-in that provides instant costing on sheet metal parts. RAPID will still have a quote option on the website for individuals that do not create a myRAPID Account.

Rapid Sheet Metal Inc, specializing in the rapid turnaround of sheet metal prototypes, is excited to announce the release of a sheet metal design technical video “Proper Feature Location to Bends”, the first in a series of video sheet metal design technical tips for design engineers.  The idea was conceived by the engineers at Rapid Sheet Metal to promote design techniques enhancing the manufacturability of sheet metal parts.  Recognizing many mechanical engineers don’t have the time to interface with sheet metal shops to learn optimum design techniques, Rapid decided to create a library of brief video sheet metal technical tips that would be available on an as-need basis 24/7. Design engineers can review the videos at their leisure and pick only topics of interest to them.

“Offering a series of sheet metal design technique videos to fellow engineers is a great opportunity to help out the people we work with on a daily basis.” said Steve Lynch, Engineering Manager at Rapid Sheet Metal. “It benefits both sides.  Our clients are able to better prepare their sheet metal designs for manufacturability, saving them time and money, and Rapid receives 3D CAD files that will flow through the shop quickly, increasing the chance that we can ship their parts early.”

Rapid Sheet Metal will introduce a new tech tip every two months. The first sheet metal tech tip, “Proper Feature Location to Bends”, is now available for viewing on the Rapid Sheet Metal web page or on YouTube on the Rapid Sheet Metal™ Channel.  Future tips, along with previously introduced ones, can be found on both web sites.

Rapid Sheet Metal Inc focuses strictly on providing sheet metal prototypes and time sensitive short run fabrications to new product developers and engineers. Typical quote response time is well under 24 hours and most parts are shipped in one to two weeks.  A 48-hour fast expedite prototype sheet metal service is also available. Parts such as brackets, racks, housings, and enclosures are fabricated to customer data from SolidWorks, Pro/E, SpaceClaim , Inventor, KeyCreator and other 3D CAD data sources from stainless steel, cold rolled steel and aluminum materials. Rapid Sheet Metal Inc’s sister company, Rapid Machining, focuses on quick turn CNC machined and turned prototype parts.

Rapid Sheet Metal Inc, specializing in the rapid turnaround of sheet metal prototypes, is rolling out a new custom fabricated product every month from their newly created “Rapid Labs”. The Rapid Labs was conceived by the engineers at Rapid Sheet Metal. Occasionally seeing the need for a product where sheet metal would offer a solution, they decided to be proactive and design that solution themselves. In between orders of custom sheet metal prototypes, the engineers brought their ideas to life, satisfying their own needs. Now Rapid Sheet Metal is offering these custom sheet metal products to the public.

“We have a lot of talent in our engineering department, which provides us the opportunity to create different products and see them come to life.” said Steve Lynch, Engineering Manager at Rapid Sheet Metal. “That coupled with the access to a prototype sheet metal and machining facility capable of short run production parts inspired the products which are now coming out of the Rapid Labs.”

The Rapid Labs is producing a new product every month. The first custom sheet metal products, large and medium sized Dual LCD Monitor Stands, are now available on the Rapid Labs web page, www.therapidlabs.com. Future products, along with previously introduced ones, can be found on the web site as well.

Rapid Sheet Metal™ focuses strictly on providing sheet metal prototypes and time sensitive short run fabrications to new product developers and engineers. Typical quote response time is under 24 hours and most parts are shipped in six business days or less. A 48 hour fast expedite sheet metal prototyping service is also available. Parts such as brackets, rac¬ks, housings, and enclosures are fabricated to data from Solidworks, Pro/E, Inventor, KeyCreator/ Cadkey, SpaceClaim and other 3D CAD data sources from stainless steel, cold rolled steel and aluminum materials.
