Vero Software Launches Machining STRATEGIST v14

Written by

Vero Software, a leading provider of CAD/CAM/CAE solutions for the tooling industry, are pleased to announce the release of Machining STRATEGIST V14.  A powerful multi-axis CAM solution that generates optimum High Speed CNC toolpaths for both the office and shop-floor environment. Machining STRATEGIST is a CAD independent solution and can work with data from all major 3D modelling systems. Within the latest release, support for VISI 20 has been added and the CAD interfaces have been aligned to Parasolid v25.

Significant product enhancements include a new innovative Roughing algorithm that will greatly benefit both Machining STRATEGIST customers and OEM partners.  The new roughing strategy massively reduces rapid moments by controlling the tool movement so that it remains on the part, following previous cut paths instead of rapid feeding to the new position. Additional toolpath optimisation features include the ability to automatically machine flat areas only instead of adding extra Z levels to clean up planar zones.

The new roughing algorithm also permits to the use of  a large step over (greater than 50%), where an innovative offset algorithm ensures total coverage of the machining area by adding smooth transition corner pips to clean up any remaining areas.

Other significant developments include:

  • Improvements to linking core area clearance toolpaths.
  • Linking horizontal area passes from outside to in (core linking).
  • Use pre-drilled entry points for cavity regions of core roughing toolpaths.
  • Minimise retract moves on vertical walls.
  • More consistent lead arcs when linking.

Steve Youngs, MS Development Manager concludes "The ever increasing complexity of our customers work continues to drive forward the development of Machining STRATEGIST. Our ability to deliver solutions to their demanding requirements helps us all to win new business. Machining STRATEGIST v14 keeps us at the leading edge of CAM technology as we look forward."

Vero launch Machining STRATEGIST V13.0

Written by

Vero Software, a leading provider of CAD/CAM/CAE solutions for the tooling industry, are pleased to announce the release of Machining STRATEGIST V13. A powerful multi-axis CAM solution that generates optimum HSM roughing and finishing CNC toolpaths for both the office and shop-floor environment. Machining STRATEGIST is a CAD independent solution and can work with data from all major 3D modelling systems. Within the latest release, support for VISI 19 has been included and the CAD interfaces have been aligned to Parasolid v24, SolidEdge ST4 and Catia v5 r21.

Significant product enhancements include a number of new machining algorithms that will greatly benefit both Machining STRATEGIST customers and OEM partners. New CAM developments include :

HM Waterline Passes - A finishing strategy that combines all the benefits of a traditional waterline operation with a 3D pocketing routine that interacts with the main strategy whenever the shallow area between consecutive passes allows the insertion of additional passes. This method allows an optimal finish over the entire part, helping to extend tool life and produce parts with excellent surface finish.

HM Rib Machining Passes - A new strategy especially designed to machine very thin walls. These walls are often made from exotic materials (such as titanium for aerospace), and therefore a traditional approach to their machining is often difficult and risky, specifically towards the end of the process when the rib is subjected to high frequency vibrations and micro-flexes. This new strategy combines a new roughing toolpath and a finishing strategy to create a unique toolpath that should preserve the highest possible part rigidity.

Further product enhancements include improvements to Helical passes, calculation speed improvements for non-smoothed waterline passes and the ability to define different feedrates within Rest Machining and Combined Waterline for steep & shallow and offset passes.

Steve Youngs, MS Development Manager concludes, "The Machining STRATEGIST development cycle is driven by customer needs, and an ever increasing requirement to have complete toolpath control when programming complex parts. The Vero development team strive to keep our customers at the leading edge of technology with new CAM algorithms and the intelligent use of multi-threaded background processing."

Vero Software & Planit Holdings merge

Written by

Vero Software, a leading provider of CAD/CAM/CAE solutions for the tooling industry, is pleased to announce the merger of Vero Software and Planit Holdings, a leading developer of CAD/CAM software for the production engineering, sheet metal, metal fabrication and woodworking sector.

The Planit Group offers its software products globally under the Edgecam, Alphacam, Cabinet Vision, CabnetWare, Javelin and Radan brands.

The combination of Vero and Planit creates the world’s leading CAM specialist, and third largest CADCAM vendor - only behind Dassault Systèmes and Siemens PLM *. The merger of the two organisations will provide the platform to build even stronger products through significantly enhanced development capabilities and further extend a growing influence on the global market.

Commenting on the acquisition, Richard Smith, CEO of Vero Software says, "Across the enlarged Group, the complementary products address the worldwide need for CAD/CAM/CAE technology in a large variety of focussed manufacturing processes enabling us to accelerate our growth. With greater critical mass we will be able to continue to provide excellent service and support to both existing and new customers. We fully recognise the importance of product branding and customer loyalty, and therefore, it is important to emphasise that we will continue to invest in all of the products. We will move forward together with the expertise, knowledge and resources necessary to deliver even higher levels of productivity to our customers."

The merger has been funded by Battery Ventures (Boston, USA) who have been investing for more than 25 years in technology-driven companies and work hard with management to build their presence into global market leaders.

Dave Tabors, General Partner at Battery Ventures comments, "We are pleased to enter into this transaction with Planit, and are excited about the prospects ahead for the combined group. We believe that both Vero and Planit have been following a very smart strategy in a highly fragmented market. With strong products, a high quality management team, and the respect of its customer base worldwide, the company is well positioned for future growth - both organically and through acquisition."
