Matt Reynolds, current Director of Content and Research for PMMI Media Group, will succeed Pat Reynolds as Editor of the world’s largest packaging publication, Packaging World, in January 2018.

Matt Reynolds has established himself in the packaging community as a respected and trusted journalist. In his time with PMMI Media Group, Matt has been the Director of Custom Media, Content, and Research, driving content decisions and providing innovative ways for suppliers to market their brands. He has also been Editorial Director of PMMI Media Group’s Packaging + Processing OEM, since 2015. He has more than a decade of experience as a journalist and editor, having spent time at publications including Baking Management, Modern Baking, and serving as a technical writer for multiple machine tool and fabrication publications. Reynolds received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois, and he holds a MS in Journalism from Roosevelt University.

PMMI Announces Purchase of Summit Media Group

PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, owner and producer of the PACK EXPO portfolio of trade shows, has entered into an agreement to purchase Summit Media Group, Inc., publisher of Packaging World, Automation World, Healthcare Packaging and Contract Packaging. The sale is expected to conclude in late October, according to PMMI Chairman Bill Crist, CEO, Kliklok-Woodman, who delivered the announcement at PMMI's Annual Meeting.

"Summit is a well-known, highly-respected publisher, with print publications and a significant digital presence that truly complements PMMI's strategic plan. They bring to the table a fully developed platform, an established audience and a high level of brand recognition - all within a proven business model," Crist says.

"PMMI's strategic vision is to create opportunities where businesses and people along the packaging and processing supply chain can convene to network, problem solve and do business," Crist adds. "The robust platform Summit brings to the table will enhance our ability to do that."

PACK EXPO 2013 Las Vegas

Manufacturers in the pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, nutraceutical and medical device industries are facing significant challenges in 2013, including a shifting regulatory landscape, downward pricing pressures and escalating attention to product safety measures. However, players in this highly scrutinized industry must also continue to advance their operations in order to remain competitive and capitalize on expanding opportunities in emerging markets. PACK EXPO will be held September 23-25, 2013 at the Las Vegas Convention Center and feature the latest technologies and a range of education opportunities to help these industry professionals overcome challenges and drive growth.

Now in its third year, The Pharmaceutical Pavilion will highlight the latest advances in equipment and materials such as labeling technologies, filling and inspection systems, blister packaging, tubes and closures. PACK EXPO International 2012 Breaks Records

Packaging and processing professionals gathered in Chicago for PACK EXPO International 2012, the largest packaging and processing trade show in the world this year.

The four-day event, Oct. 28–31, covered more than 1.1 million net square feet (nsf) in McCormick Place with 1,965 exhibiting companies — an increase of over 6 percent for space and 8 percent for exhibiting companies from PACK EXPO International 2010.

Pre-registration for PACK EXPO was up significantly (nearly 10 percent) going into the event, however, the East Coast storm did have some effect on the final attendance numbers. Still, in spite of the storm, PACK EXPO welcomed 45,300 attendees to McCormick Place for the four-day event, which is an increase of 3 percent over the 2010 show. Some of this increase can be credited to the significant growth in the number of international attendees, which was up 8 percent from 2010.

Charles D. Yuska, president & CEO of PMMI owner and producer PACK EXPO, says, “While we fully expected to surpass our attendance goals, the storm’s effect on East Coast travel prohibited many from making the show. However, we still finished with the largest PACK EXPO International since 2006.”

Yuska adds, “The increase in exhibitors speaks to the quality of business done at PACK EXPO. These exhibiting companies invest time and resources, and they have to believe that they are going to get a return on that investment.”

The momentum from the Chicago show continues with exhibitors already planning their presence at PACK EXPO Las Vegas, Sept. 23-25, 2013. Approximately 47,000 square feet of booth space sold during the show in Chicago last week, bringing the current PACK EXPO Las Vegas net square footage to nearly 560,000 nsf, over 20 percent ahead of pace from 2011. This is an excellent indicator that next year’s PACK EXPO Las Vegas 2013 will be the largest yet and that business remains on the upswing.

“PACK EXPO International 2012 was definitely a success,” says Yuska, “Traffic was strong, despite the storm, and the exhibitors I spoke with were very pleased with the number and quality of leads they received. I think it’s also significant that exhibitors were already planning ahead and reserving booth space for PACK EXPO Las Vegas 2013.”

PMMI, the owner and producer of PACK EXPO International 2012 (McCormick Place, Chicago; Oct. 28–31), is pleased to announce that highly acclaimed journalist Bob Sirott will moderate the PACK EXPO Lecture Series featuring Dennis Miller and James Carville on Oct. 28. Sirott co-anchors FOX Chicago News at 9.

While he’s been in this particular anchor seat for just over two years, Sirott has been part of the Chicago broadcasting landscape since his time as an NBC Chicago Page in 1966. (By age 19, Sirott was the production and public affairs director at NBC radio station WMAQ.)

Through the 1970s, Sirott, worked his way up in radio. He hosted the morning show at WBBM-FM, and went over to legendary rock powerhouse WLS, where he became the top afternoon radio personality in town, from 1973–1980.

In 1980, Sirott made the jump to television. He became WBBM-TV’s (CBS) first lifestyle and entertainment editor, and received the Chicago Headline Club’s Peter Lisagor Award for his reporting on the death of John Lennon. He was an anchor and correspondent for West 57th, a news magazine program from CBS Network New and won an Emmy award for feature reporting.

In 1990, he went to NBC5, anchoring and shaping news programs; he launched a 6:00–7:00 am news program, “First Thing in the Morning,” and the Emmy award winning commentary series “One More Thing.” He took the “First Thing in the Morning” program format with him to FOX Chicago, for a seven-year stint co-anchoring “FOX Thing in the Morning” with Marianne Murciano, whom he married in 1999.

In 2002, Sirott was the anchor and managing editor of “Chicago Tonight,” a nightly live newsmagazine on Chicago’s PBS affiliate (WTTW/11), expanding the program to an hour, and generating even more critical acclaim. From 2005–2009, Sirott anchored NBC5 late afternoon and evening newscasts as well as the 10:00 pm news.

PACK EXPO Registration Open
