In the internet age, engineers and part buyers expect to have the information they need to make decisions at their fingertips. This is no easy task; for the millions of electronic parts in existence, data is scattered across thousands of websites and hundreds of catalogs. Octopart streamlines the process of finding parts by providing access to all of this data at one central location. Using Octopart, part buyers and engineers can search millions of parts across thousands of distributors and manufacturers by availability or technical specification.

Octopart is now accessible through Cadence Design Systems’ OrCAD Capture CIS software used by professional electronic design engineers to develop the next generation of electronic devices. Without leaving the OrCAD software, design engineers can include parts found on Octopart into their new designs. In addition to part data, Octopart reports suppliers’ current stock levels, pricing and links to purchase parts for prototyping and production.

“Design engineers and part buyers use Octopart because searching on Octopart saves time,” said Sam Wurzel, Octopart CEO. “When you are deep in the design process, you don’t want to open a bunch of web browser tabs to search for part information. Having access to Octopart from within OrCAD streamlines the design process and provides seamless integration.”

“Engineers spend a lot of time searching for appropriate parts to use in their designs,” said Josh Moore, sr. product marketing manager for OrCAD products at Cadence. “The ActiveParts Portal in OrCAD Capture provides a more efficient method for that process and the addition of the Octopart component search engine further enhances our users capabilities.”

About Octopart

Octopart Inc. develops search technology that enables part buyers and design engineers to compare the prices and availability of electronic parts across different distributors. It was started in the fall of 2006 by two physics grad students who were tired of searching for identical electronic parts in lots of different catalogs. The company’s website launched to the public in March of 2007.
