Luxion releases KeyShot 3.1

Luxion, the leading developer of advanced rendering and lighting technology and makers of KeyShot®, the first real time ray tracing and global illumination program, is releasing KeyShot 3.1 and with it real-time enviroment editing and features galore.

Keyshot 3.1 marks the first major update of the release that introduced a patent-pending animation system, a revamped user interface and over 600+ new materials. With this update we introduce time-saving new features and improvements including a new, unique metallic paint material, interactive HDR editing that allows real-time editing of the lighting environments, material templates that allow 3D professionals to ‘auto-paint’ their models, network rendering to queue render jobs and spread them across multiple computers and much more.

Peter Kossev of PixelMathematics had this to say about KeyShot 3.1. “It is pure pleasure to work with KeyShot. The environment editor is so well integrated and the results are simply great. This was already great product, but now is really a complete product. And together with the animation package, it is just one fantastic tool that leaves everyone else in the dust.”

Key new features include:

Metallic Paint with real flakes
The metallic paint now includes the option to render realistic metallic flakes. These can be added to the material by using the two new parameters shown in the box below. Easily control flake size and visibility with simple sliders – all in realtime..

Real-time Environment editing
This patent-pending lighting system allows users of KeyShot Pro to adjust hue, saturation or boost existing lights in your lighting environment quickly and easily within the KeyShot environment. The new HDR editor makes it possible to perform these tasks on the fly with instant feedback applied to your lighting.

Material templates
Also patent-pending, the Material template bring customizable templates that allow users to automatically assign materials to any model on import. For example, if a shiny plastic is used on several products, KeyShot can be customized to automatically assign a shiny plastic to all parts that include the name “shiny plastic.”

Animation interaction
Animations can now be multi-selected and edited in the timeline. Duplicate, shift or delete entire groups of animations in a single click. In addition, animations can be mirrored, cutting the work of an exploded view animation in half.

Certification of KeyShot with 3DConnexion devices
We are proud to announce that KeyShot 3.1 will be officially certified to work with all of 3DConnexion’s devices.

Network Rendering
Network rendering is now available with KeyShot 3 as an option at an addtional charge. This much more robust version introduces an installer, a queue with manageable jobs and the ability dynamically add or remove slaves from the network even while jobs are being processed. Animations and stills can be rendered using any of the KeyShot 3 render output modes.

Support for Autodesk Maya
KeyShot 3.1 supports files generated in Autodesk Maya 2012 or prior natively. All the user needs in order to take advantage of this functionality is have Maya installed and licensed. KeyShot will then maintain the file structure, groupings, naming and materials as preserved in the original file.

Luxion Releases KeyShot Plugin for PTC® Creo™ 1.0

“Upgrading our existing KeyShot plugin architecture was straight forward,” says Dr. Henrik Wann Jensen, Chief Scientist and co-founder of Luxion. “Not only could we re-use the majority of our existing implementation, but it was also incredibly easy to integrate the user interface components with Creo’s new UI and ribbon interface.  We commend PTC on its vision and look forward to offering our solution on Creo.”

KeyShot is an interactive 3D rendering and global illumination program developed by Luxion for both PC and Mac that breaks down the complexity of creating photographic images from 3D models. Combined with its ease of use KeyShot gives anybody involved with 3D data the ability to create photographic images in a matter of minutes, independent of the size of the digital model.

KeyShot 2, with native support for Creo 1.0,features the ability to import Creo data directly on PC and Mac. With this new plugin designers and engineers can now link Creo Parametric and KeyShot, and transfer data directly from their modeling session into KeyShot's rendering environment with a single button click. Not only does this eliminate several steps in the process, but the data transfer itself is also significantly faster. This allows users to create high quality images from their Creo data in an even shorter amount of time.

The plugin is integrated seamlessly into the Creo UI and ribbon interface which makes- the plugin appear as a native Creo application. Introduced at last year’s PTC’s Creo launch event, the plugin has been rewritten from the ground up using PTC’s Pro/ TOOLKIT® enabling even greater flexibility when transferring data from Creo into KeyShot. Core features of the plugin include:

* Quality control: Users can determine the quality of the tessellation with a simple slider.
* Assembly structure: When transferring assemblies from Creo to KeyShot, the full assembly structure will be maintained inside KeyShot, including all subassemblies and instances. The user has the option to merge all instances into a single part inside of KeyShot to reduce complexity.
* Appearances: Users can now maintain color information on the assembly as well as on the part level.
* Saved views: All saved views including default views of an assembly are now available inside KeyShot as saved camera views.

Luxion Unveils KeyShot® 3

* Everything happens inside KeyShot's realtime raytraced environment: setup, edit and playback.
* During setup, edit and playback of the animation the scene stays fully interactive, allowing the user to interact with the camera, lighting and materials
* Rather than relying on setting up key frames, Luxion has developed a unique, patent-pending animation system based on offset transforms.
* The use of offset transforms makes it possible to add individual animation components to single or multiple parts, move them in the timeline, and copy, paste or move them within the model hierarchy.
* To develop more complex animations, the user adds multiple transforms to each object.

Siggraph 2011 marks the first public showing of KeyShot 3. Luxion will demonstrate KeyShot 3 and its patent-pending animation capabilities in booth #780 at Siggraph 2011, held in Vancouver, Canada, from August 9-11, 2011.

Currently undergoing extensive Beta-testing with select Luxion customers, the final release of KeyShot is targeted for fall 2011.

KeyShot® supports SolidWorks 2011®- Luxion

Luxion, the leading developer of advanced rendering and lighting technology and makers of KeyShot, the first realtime ray tracing and global illumination program, will be demonstrating native support of SolidWorks 2011 ® as part of a greatly enhanced import pipeline for KeyShot at SolidWorks World 2011, held from January 23 through 26 in San Antonio, TX.

At its booth (#324) Luxion will show off the latest version of KeyShot 2 with the following additions and improvements

* Native import of SolidWorks 2011 data and prior
* Improved import pipeline that imports data faster than before
* Complete preservation of the CAD model’s part and assembly structure
* Support of additional file formats including CATIA ® V5

In addition, Luxion will preview an all new KeyShot plugin for SolidWorks. This plugin will greatly enhance the interoperability between the 2 applications by allowing users to establish an associative link between SolidWorks and KeyShot. This will allow users to push their design changes directly to KeyShot where it will automatically replace the existing model while preserving all previous material assignments and environment settings.
