IronCAD announced the release of their highly anticipated 2015 IronCAD Design Collaboration Suite (DCS). Customers will benefit from an improved user experience, enhanced design capabilities and new collaboration tools.

Simplifying the user experience is a key objective for the IronCAD development team and the 2015 release delivered upon this by extending its Configuration Based Design capabilities such as its unique catalog interface. IronCAD DCS catalogs allow design elements to be stored as basic elements or intelligent elements and then dragged & dropped onto any new object. With the added intelligence, components can automatically configure position, orientation, size, and can give access to business information such as quoting, procurement and more. Extending upon the catalogs, IronCAD DCS 2015 adds the ability to create catalog groups, which makes it even simpler to organize data and find the best fitting element. Additional intelligence is accessible to automatically constrain elements for not only fit but for function when used in mechanisms.

Beyond the core configuration based design improvements, IronCAD DCS 2015 developed better memory management which improved performance with large data files by up to 20%.

To further enhance verification during the design process, IronCAD DCS 2015 has integrated Multi-Physics (Multi-Physics for IronCAD), a general-purpose solution for modeling and simulating physics-based problems. Also new is a 3D Annotation framework that is the basis for PMI (Product Manufacturing Information). Leveraging its existing industry standard annotation capabilities, users will now have the ability to create 3D annotations such as weld, datum, surface finish, notes, and standard dimensions stored in user-set viewing planes for easy visibility within the 3D scene.

In addition to the many IRONCAD standard improvements, this release focuses on tighter connections to 3rd party programs that help expand the Configuration Based Design capabilities both within an enterprise and extending outside to companies consumers and suppliers. Such improvements include support for KeyShot 5 giving users access to the latest improvements and rendering capabilities to create visuals that can be used for quoting, marketing and product documentation. Connections to Sketchfab and GrabCAD extend online accessibility to collaborative content.

IronCAD’s commitment to sharing design content throughout the supply chain and the extended global team has fueled the creation of more powerful collaboration tools. Capabilities such as SmartMarkup and the new COMPOSE iOS app allows users to import, export, view and collaborate with extended teams to speed up the development process. The IronCAD DCS allows users to share, in a secure way, design data on applications with different levels of access and usability. The ability to automatically connect to the source product data allows IronCAD DCS designers to quickly see optimized design configurations and preview downstream change requests. Designers can then accept, reject or further optimize design changes directly to speed product designs into production.

Cary O’Connor, Vice President of Marketing at IronCAD, stated, “The extension of our Configuration Based Design with our new 2015 release definitely enhances our customer experience and efficiency. These core design tools facilitate quick design, sharing, reuse and accessibility among different user levels across business processes.”

“Furthermore”, Cary added, “Our customers will benefit from IronCAD DCS 2015 collaboration tools such as Smart eMarkup especially on mobile devices like the iPad.  The improvements in the catalogs as well as the advances in communication allows our customers to deliver the highest quality designs faster than ever before possible.”

Siemens PLM Software, a business unit of the Siemens Industry Automation Division and a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, and IronCAD, Inc., a leading provider of design collaboration solutions, today announced that IronCAD’s new 3D Connector software, part of IRONCAD Draft, is now integrated with Siemens PLM Software’s Parasolid software, the world’s most widely used 3D geometric modeling component, and three D-Cubed software components for constraint solving and collision detection.

“The Parasolid and D-Cubed components have for many years been making critical contributions to the fundamental capabilities of IRONCAD, our full feature 3D part and assembly modeling product,” said Cary O’Connor, Vice President of Marketing for IronCAD. “We’re delighted to be able to make further use of these components in IRONCAD Draft, allowing users to leverage constraint information from their 3D models in the context of a dedicated drafting and detailing tool.”

IRONCAD Draft is a 2D drafting tool with a new 3D integration capability enabled by 3D Connector. Leveraging its new integration with Parasolid, users can now import 3D model data – from suppliers, customers and colleagues – created with any software product capable of outputting the widely used Parasolid geometry format, such as IRONCAD or a wide range of third party applications. The data can be viewed, analyzed, rendered and referenced as the user produces drawings using the various 2D mechanical drafting functions in IRONCAD Draft.

In addition, any 3D models imported from IRONCAD can be repositioned under the control of any existing dimensions and constraints using Siemens PLM Software’s D-Cubed 2D and 3D Dimensional Constraint Managers (DCMs). This allows the user to reconfigure a constrained model to meet the requirements of a specific 2D drafting or detailing task. Using the D-Cubed Collision Detection Manager (CDM) users can also quickly verify that new configurations do not result in colliding parts.

“IronCAD has been effectively leveraging our PLM Components for several years to help maximize the value they deliver to their customers,” said Joan Hirsch, vice president, Product Design Solutions, Siemens PLM Software. “With the deployment of Parasolid and various D-Cubed components in their new product, IronCAD has extended the use of our components across their product lines with minimum effort. The re-use of PLM Components enables innovative companies like IronCAD to rapidly and cost-effectively deliver new capabilities that create even more value for their customers. We are proud that the proven and flexible integration architecture of our high quality component software continues to provide benefits for all our customers.”

IronCAD, LLC, the leading provider of design productivity solutions, today announced the immediate availability of its newest product offering "IRONCAD DRAFT". Primarily focused as a production level 2D mechanical detailing application, IRONCAD DRAFT extends this capability with a unique 3D integrated collaboration component that provides the ability to view, assemble, analyze, annotate, render, and reference 3D model data while maintain full connectivity to changes in 3D. IRONCAD DRAFT essentially places 3D data in the hands of 2D designers at extremely affordable cost.

"For decades users have needed to choose between working in 2D or 3D" commented Richard Serna, Sales Director of IronCAD. "Historically, designers have wanted to work in 2D. They prefer the ability to control and craft their drawings and to detail them clearly and efficiently. To these users, drafting is an art form, not merely a series of lines on a piece of paper. While the evolution of 3D modeling has made designing products easier for some, for many working in 3D is not a necessity but it is beneficial. Today, IRONCAD DRAFT provides an extremely powerful 2D mechanical drafting tool with an easy to learn, industry standard user interface and a unique 3D integration capability, enabling users to leverage 3D model data created by suppliers, customers, and colleagues in their 2D designs while maintaining full association to the data. For companies that have IRONCAD 3D data, this integration expands upon the capability by allowing the 3D to be pervasive throughout the company at an affordable price range." he continued.
