Design Concepts, Inc., an award-winning innovation and product design consultancy headquartered in Madison, WI, has deepened the firm's expertise in industrial design with the addition of Bill Dorr to the key leadership position of director of industrial design.

In his role, Bill is responsible for driving design thinking and execution across Design Concepts’ team of eight industrial designers. He focuses his expertise on nurturing creative thought while ensuring design alignment with client goals and objectives. Throughout his career, Bill has developed particular strengths in design execution for manufacturing, brand strategy and creative collaboration.

Bill brings to the firm more than ten years of design leadership experience in both corporate and consulting environments. Bill was a founding partner of notable design firms in both Atlanta and Phoenix. He has extensive product design experience in consumer electronics gained at technology leaders including Compaq Computer Corporation. Most recently, Bill was senior vice president of marketing and design at Uniden America Corporation in Fort Worth, Texas.

Scott Biba, senior mechanical engineer at Design Concepts, an innovation and design consultancy located in Madison, WI, will speak at AIGA Wisconsin, Thursday, April 14, 2011.

Biba will talk about the company’s sustainability initiative and its participation in the Designers Accord, a global coalition of designers, educators and business leaders working together to create a positive environmental and social impact.

Also speaking at AIGA Wisconsin (formerly the American Institute of Graphic Arts) will be Eric Benson, Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois, and founder of Re-Nourish.com. In addition, a representative from Mohawk Papers will present information about AIGA’s initiative, LivingPrinciples.org.

Dave Franchino, president and principal of the innovation and design firm Design Concepts, Inc., has been selected to present at the 2011 National Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Conference, Madison, WI, April 11-13. Franchino will present Leveraging Innovation: How to Partner with a Product Development Firm on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Monona Terrace.

The SBIR Conference includes Skills Workshops designed to give attendees the tools and the contacts they need to be successful and avoid common pitfalls. The Skills Workshop led by Franchino will share ideas and information on maximizing the powerful relationship between small business owners, researchers, entrepreneurs and a product development firm. After learning more about the strategies and tactics that form the foundation of successful design projects, attendees will be able to evaluate the risks and rewards of collaborative innovation partnerships.
