NCDMM to Hold Its 10th Annual SUMMIT

The National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM) proudly announces it will hold its 10th annual SUMMIT event on May 6th – 7th, 2015, at the Chestnut Ridge Golf Resort and Conference Center in Blairsville, PA. The theme for this year’s SUMMIT is “Innovation through Collaboration.”

SUMMIT is NCDMM’s premier annual, two-day event for encouraging collaboration among government, industry, and academia. By bringing these representatives together, SUMMIT provides opportunities to inspire, collaborate, and innovate.

“This year’s SUMMIT holds a great significance for the NCDMM as it marks a decade of hosting this annual event to elevate the level of interaction and collaboration among our partners,” said Ralph Resnick, NCDMM President and Executive Director. “NCDMM’s ability to deliver and implement leading manufacturing innovations to defense organizations and their industrial base is reliant on our solid and productive partnerships. I look forward to experiencing another highly engaging SUMMIT this year and to hosting this event throughout the next decade.”

May 6th will be an interactive day of presentations by keynote speaker and guest speakers, networking opportunities, and technology displays. Following the day’s presentations, there will be an evening reception for attendees to continue networking, gain an understanding of the technologies displays, and build mutually beneficial partnerships.

The keynote speakers for SUMMIT 2015 are:

  • Rebecca O. Bagley, Vice Chancellor of the University of Pittsburgh
  • John B. Johns, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Maintenance and Policy Programs
  • Michael F. Molnar, Director NIST Advanced Manufacturing Program Office
  • Mike Snyder, Director of R&D of Made in Space

SUMMIT 2015 will also feature three guest speakers, including:

  • Lisa Camp, Associate Dean of Strategic Initiatives, Case Western Reserve University School of Engineering
  • Richard Grylls, Ph.D., LENS General Manager, Optomec, Inc.
  • Anita Raines, Deputy to the Commander, Letterkenny Army Depot

The NCDMM also plans to present its highest honor, the Lawrence J. Rhoades Award, to this year’s recipient at SUMMIT. The Rhoades Award was established to honor the memory of Mr. Rhoades whose entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to the advancement of manufacturing processes was known industry-wide. Mr. Rhoades was one of the founding fathers of the NCDMM, and an inaugural member of the Board of Directors where he served until his untimely death in 2007.

To conclude SUMMIT 2015, on May 7th, the NCDMM is hosting a Troops First Benefit Golf Outing. Golfers will enjoy a great day on the links while continuing to network with fellow SUMMIT attendees and helping support the work that Feherty’s Troops First Foundation, a nonprofit organization that develops, operates, and supports a synergistic group of wellness, quality of life, and sports-based initiatives in support of today’s military personnel. All proceeds raised at the Golf Outing will be donated to the Troops First Foundation

SUMMIT Golf Outing participants will play on the Tom’s Run Golf Course at Chestnut Ridge. Tom’s Run was rated one of the 10 Best Public Golf Courses in Pennsylvania by Golf Digest, earning a 4 ½ star rating. With its multiple tees and bent grass greens and fairways, Tom’s Run offers an ideal golfing experience for players of all skill levels.

NCDMM delivers optimized manufacturing solutions that enhance the quality, affordability, maintainability, and rapid deployment of existing and yet-to-be developed defense systems. This is accomplished through collaboration with government, industry, and academic organizations to promote the implementation of best practices to key stakeholders through the development and delivery of disciplined training, advanced technologies, and methodologies. NCDMM also manages the national accelerator for additive manufacturing (AM) and 3DP printing (3DP), America Makes—the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute.
