LVMC (3)

EPMC formerly LVMC has been running for over a decade and is the premier technical conference in Europe dedicated solely to the use of precision dimensional measurement technology for process improvement for manufacturers.

Following the success of the event in 2017, EPMC will be returning to the Ricoh Arena in Coventry for 2018.

EPMC is a rare opportunity to see presentations on real world applications from leading industry experts and academics, as well as to view the latest equipment from the world’s best suppliers, network and share ideas and of course, increase overall awareness of European and worldwide industries. The event will follow a similar format of a combination of immersive seminars, exhibition, networking functions and the metrology stadium.

With the attendance of industry professionals from major manufacturing OEMs, EPMC is the foremost conference and exhibition to attend to discuss real world metrology applications with like-minded individuals.

Conference topics will cover:

  • Developments in metrology education
  • Automation of metrology applications in shop floor environments
  • Novel and unusual adaptations and applications of existing metrology technology
  • Developments that will lead to the future of metrology
  • Discussions of the challenges and needs of the dimension metrology community

The committee members are:

  • Carl Baines, Brunson (Chair)
  • Simon Cheetham, BAE Systems
  • Carl Hitchens, Nuclear AMRC
  • Andrew Hockenhull,  Airbus
  • David Homewood, FARO
  • John Kane, Wyvern Industrial Technology
  • Steve Shickell, NMS 3D UK
  • Trevor Toman, Coventry University

The event is self-financing and is run not for profit, and its future is dependent upon the support of exhibitors and delegates who attend each year.

Following a highly successful 10th anniversary conference and exhibition in 2014, LVMC, the Large Volume Metrology Conference, returns this year as EPMC, the European Portable Metrology Conference. The event brings together metrology professionals from across Europe and the World from a wide range of industrial sectors such as automotive, aerospace, and power generation, as well as researchers from universities, industry and national institutes. In fact, EPMC provides a unique opportunity for anyone with an interest in improving production quality, throughput and efficiency to get hands-on with the latest equipment and learn about the latest developments, innovations and best practice in metrology. Everyone with an interest in this developing hi-tech subject, a key enabler in manufacturing, is invited to attend. Whether you are an engineer involved in inspection or manufacturing, a manager responsible for quality in a production facility or an academic researching into measurement for advanced manufacturing and automation, we have something for you.

LVMC was originally founded by Airbus in 2004 to promote education, best practice and networking among professionals engaged in the application, development, provision and sales of portable 3D metrology systems and services. Since independent operation in 2011, the organising committee has introduced new features to the event to provide delegates with more content and more reasons to attend. These have included an education forum and panel discussion on technology, an ice breaker to start the event and, more recently, poster presentations and vendor workshops. This year will see multiple presentation tracks for the first time, and other new features to be announced soon, all providing more opportunity for learning and networking than ever before.

Although our core values remain the same, the name change highlights the focus on portable metrology in general rather than large volume metrology specifically. It also emphasizes the event’s location in Europe and its established international nature. Adding to the international theme, it has also been announced that the event would periodically cycle between the UK and a European destination, to bring the event to a wider audience and grow the community. This will start next year when the event will be held in Germany.

On the committee, Ben Hughes of the UK’s National Physical Laboratory (NPL) took over from chairman, John Kane (Third Dimension), who remains Vice Chairman.  New this year to the committee are Simon Cheetham of BAe Systems, who brings a valuable industrial perspective, and Stefan Quinders of the Machine Tool and Production Engineering laboratory at Aachen University, who is supporting our move to Germany and helping to grow our German audience.

To support this expanding event an even larger space than last year’s has been reserved at the Manchester Mercure Hotel, a venue very popular with delegates to recent conferences.

So why not join our community at EPMC which this year will be held in Manchester, UK on November 9-11, 2015.

LVMC will this year hold its tenth anniversary conference at the Mercure Hotel Manchester on November 19th and 20th.  A regular feature of the metrology calendar, LVMC's not for profit, community run ethos will be celebrated with a look back over the progress of the industry in the past decade and a look forward to the decade to come.

As well as looking forward, underpinning the event as always is the key theme of Process Improvement Through Measurement Technology. The event will give you the opportunity to learn about the latest developments in large volume and portable metrology.

With the future firmly in mind, this year's keynote speaker is Adam Duke, Head of Design Engineering at EasyJet, the UK's largest airline.

Adam, one of easyJet’s recognised innovators, is an industry veteran of 28 years, drawing from his considerable experience to manage the approval and continued airworthiness of damage, maintenance and repairs on easyJet’s fleet of more than 225 Airbus aircraft.

Adam will be providing a fascinating insight into the latest adaptations of technology the airline is using to improve efficiencies through innovation, proactive inspection, and creative uses of metrology.

The programme will also include presentations from Rolls Royce, Nikon, Boeing and CERN to name but a few, along with a focus on the future of metrology by a panel of experts drawn from the many fields of the metrology world.  An education forum lead by NPL will kick the event off, along with plenty of networking functions, poster presentations and vendor workshops.

Exhibitors will line the conference venue giving plenty of opportunity to see the latest innovations and to talk face to face with the specialists and to search for the truth of best available practise.

With attendance of professionals from major manufacturing OEMs such as Brunson, Faro, & Hexagon, LVMC is the foremost conference to attend to discuss real world metrology applications with like-minded individuals. LVMC allows Manufacturing, Quality Control, Production, Tooling and Maintenance professionals the opportunity to explore the potential for advanced application of dimensional metrology to increase production quality and throughput.
