2014 European Altair Technology Conference

Altair announced further details about the three technical seminars the company will offer over the course of the European Altair Technology Conference 2014, being held at the Dolce Munich Unterschleissheim in Munich, Germany, from June 24-26, 2014. The 2014 conference seminars will cover topics around simulation driven product development. All seminars will have a high level of interaction. Attendees will be encouraged to discuss their own use cases with the Altair experts conducting the seminars. All three technical seminars will take place on Tuesday June 24th, 2014 and are intended for interested engineers and engineering managers, working in the respective development areas.

In detail, the seminars will cover the following topics:

Seminar 1: Altair OptiStruct for Non-Linear Analysis and Optimization

While small displacement analysis and Optimization has already been well established, the latest version of OptiStruct also provides fully integrated capabilities for large displacement analysis. The workshop, conducted by the lead development staff of OptiStruct for non-linear tasks, will explain the new options and functions in OptiStruct 13.0 for a broad set of non-linear analysis, the theoretical background, and how to use the new options most efficiently.

Seminar topics:

•    Overview of non-linear applications in OptiStruct
•    Available elements and materials for non-linear analysis
•    Contact formulations
•    Available analysis sequences
•    Solver setting and output options
•    Zooming and sub-modeling
•    Customization / process integration
•    Maximize the performance of OptiStruct, parallel computing
•    Optimization for non-linear analysis

Seminar 2: Predicting Acoustic Behavior with Altair HyperWorks

Predicting acoustic behavior is becoming increasingly important from a comfort as well as an environmental impact perspective. The seminar will highlight fundamentals of noise sources and the theoretical background of how to solve different phenomena. Additionally the seminar will discuss some real world applications and explain how to set them up within the HyperWorks environment in the most efficient way.

Seminar topics:

•    Theoretical background on noise and vibrations (structure and fluid)
•    How to select the most efficient method
•    Setting up real world problems
•    Coupled fluid and structural borne noise simulation
•    Possibilities to optimize the noise and vibrations behavior

Seminar 3: Multi-Disciplinary Optimization (MDO) – Best Practices and Methods

Industry is moving the deployment of multi-disciplinary optimization (MDO) from research to development. MDO provides a gateway to achieve optimized balanced design allowing trade-offs between mass, attribute performance and even cost. The seminar will showcase a dedicated MDO set-up tool (i.e. multi-model synchronization, design variable & responses specification), different MDO processes (i.e. i-MDO and a-MDO), efficient optimization strategies for large non-linear problems (e.g. multiple crash loadcases) and efficient post-processing. Examples of MDO’s applied to automotive (e.g. BIW) and aerospace (e.g. landing system) will be presented.

Seminar topics:

•    Overview of different MDO approaches (iMDO vs. aMDO)
•    Challenges to run MDO and new approaches to overcome challenges
•    Methods to set up MDO studies efficiently
•    Methods to post-process MDO studies
•    Optimization algorithms
•    Packaged Solutions Offerings from Altair

“Our ATC Technical Seminars have always been well attended and I expect them once again to deliver value to our customers this year. Thanks to the combination of theory, practical knowledge, product information, and use cases, all of our customers have profited from attending the seminars. In particular the opportunity to discuss current technical challenges and future software development directions directly with our products development staff has attracted many customers,” said Dr. Detlef Schneider, Senior Vice President EMEA, Altair. “Based on our experience I would like to encourage customers and other interested parties to register for the seminar of their choice as early as possible.”

While the attendance of the conference itself is free of charge, the seminars will be charged at a fee of 200€ p.p. plus VAT. Online registration for the conference itself, all related events and the Technical Seminars will start in March 2014.

Other events featured during the 7th European ATC are: The panel discussion: “The Next Big Idea”, FEKO User Group Meeting, Welcome Reception and exhibition opening (June 24), Conference Proceedings, RADIOSS, ALM, AEC, and System Simulation Symposiums (June 25-26) and the Academic & Industry Collaboration Day (June 26).
